11th June 2017 - Visit to Attingham Park (National Trust) near Shrewsbury
2017 Centre Trip to Ireland 12th- 20th May
Day 1: Arrived at the Dublin Ferry terminal and our first drive North to Newry and The Flagstaff Lodge Hotel for our
first night stop.
Day 2: From Newry we took the A2 to Rostrevor, Warrenpoint then onto Kilkeel. From Kilkeel (through the mountains of
Mourne) and on to Stangford. At Strangford we took the ferry to Portaferry. Our next stop would be at Belfast at the
Loughshore Hotel for a 3 nights. Free days to visit the Titanic Centre, Belfast City , visiting the Town Hall and the
Crown Pub one of the oldest in Belfast for a Pint (as you do). There was also the Transport museum and Folk museum well
worth the time visiting. Not far from the Hotel was Carrickfergus Castle , where some had to dress up to get in the spirit.
Day 5: The Antrim Coast Road. This is a very pleasant drive along the coast through many pretty villages and small towns
all the way to Ballycastle. Onto Torr Head which is a road which was used for the Circuit of Ireland Rally. Famous as the
queen of the Antrim Glens. The Waterfall walk which is exceptionally pretty. We made our way for our 2 night stop at Lodge
Hotel at Coleraine, where on the 17th Mike Mothershaw held his Birthday evening celebrated with a Cake.
Day 6: Drive from Coleraine to Portrush we took the Causeway road to Ballycastle visiting Dunluce Castle, Bushmills
Distillery,The Giantís Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rhead Rope Bridge.
Day 7: We travelled down the Donegal coast to our Hotel in Rossnowlagh Co Donegal. With a long day of driving ahead the
intention was to follow the Donegal coast as much as we possibly could. We went through Derry City but on the East side of
the river, on the West side is the ancient walled city of Derry, this was the centre of the troubles in this area of Northern
Ireland in the recent past. The bogside is within the walled city. All was quiet making our way around the coast to are
overnight stop at one of the best Hotels on the coast namely the Sandhouse Hotel.
Day 8: We travelled to Cavan following a scenic route round the east side of Lough Erne. Our last stop over on the trip
was staying at the The Crystal Hotel and our evening meal had a theme of a competition of wearing the best hat. Malcolm
was judged best hat and a thoroughly good night was had by all. A short trip back to Dublin for the afternoon ferry and
arriving just after 6 in Holyhead, making the drive home for most by 10pm.
There was something on the beach.
